After School Activities Program
After school program offerings have begun. If you are interested in signing your student up for activities please contact Michael Garrett-Smalls for 6th - 8th Grades, and Connor Durham for K-5th. All activities are on a first come, first serve basis, so check in with the proper Activity Coordinator to see if there is room in the activity you are choosing.
After School Programs 2012-2013 Year:
Madrona K-8 offers many after school programs in partnership with the Families & Education Levy, through the Seattle Public Schools and in alliance with YMCA, and Arts Corp. There are separate after school enrichment programs for elementary grades K-5 and middle school grades 6th -8th . The school is very grateful for the partnerships that make these terrific opportunities available for students.
All after school activities for K-8 programs are FREE to Madrona K-8 families unless noted otherwise. Snacks are provided for those attending activities.

Middle School: Grades 6th – 8th programs – known as Panther Out of School Time(P.O.S.T.) – The School maintains a Community Learning Center office on-site at Madrona K-8. Arts Corps, the largest nonprofit arts educator in the Seattle area, fosters creative habits of mind in young people through a passionate corps of teaching artists that brings the lifelong practices of persistence and discipline, critical thinking, courage and risk-taking, reflection and imagining possibilities to the classroom and beyond.

Learning Garden: Madrona K-8 maintains a learning garden on site and is developing a new program to create a garden food production plan for use in the cafeteria and for the garden to work with the school composting program.
Islandwood: Every year the fifth grade class takes a four-day trip to IslandwoodEnvironmental Center. Located on Bainbridge Island, IslandWood is a unique 255-acre outdoor learning center designed to provide exceptional learning experiences and inspire life-long environmental and community stewardship. Through its flagship School Overnight Program, IslandWood’s educators (through a partnership with the University of Washington) combine scientific inquiry, technology, and the arts to help Puget Sound-area students discover natural connections with the outdoors. The kids take on many new experiences such as following food from garden to table, to composting, to night hikes, team-building, and observation of local wildlife, never mindtheact of spending 3 nights away from home. Through both rain andshine, the fifth graders learn many new things about their surroundings and themselves, which they will be putting to great use as Madrona implements a lunchroom composting program of its own! Madronasupportsthis trip every year for its fifth grade class thanks to funding managed through the PTSA. If you would like to contribute to funding future trips, please contact the PTSA. Girl Scouts:Madrona K-8 has Girl Scout troops starting in first grade. Girl scouts are cordinated by Madrona PTSA president and parent Alix Hughes. She can be contacted at alixmhughes@hotmail.com
Inner City Outings:
Madrona K-8 has a partnership with Inner City Outings, coordinating outdoor trips through the school year for Madrona students.
